Peter Z. Peters, age 84, of Swift Current formerly of Cadillac and Wymark, passed away suddenly Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at the Heritage Towers in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
Pete was born on October 1, 1939 in Swift Current to Heinrich and Aganetha Peters, the youngest of 7 children. He was always a hard worker, as when he was 9 years old his dad passed away. By the age of 13 Pete quit school and went to work at Harold’s Esso in Swift Current. Several years later he met Helen Berger in Cadillac and their courtship began. The following year, Pete’s brother, Abe, got him a job at Canada Cement in Alberta and Abe’s wife, Betty, got Helen a job at a motel in Canmore where they married on October 25, 1961. That winter, the cement plant shut down so Pete and Helen moved to Cadillac, started a family, and Pete went to work at H.S. Roberts. Over the years he worked for the Cadillac Co-op then Bracken Co-op, Asst. agent Val Marie Wheat Pool, Agent Spring Valley, Sask. Pioneer Grain and Cadillac Pioneer Grain until retirement. Pete and Helen then started a Government Care Home, adding on a store and a café. In 2004 Pete retired from that and worked for the village of Cadillac until 2006 when they moved to their son and daughter-in-law’s acreage by Wymark, Saskatchewan.
Pete enjoyed country living doing woodwork, cardboard construction, gardening, lots of fishing and coffee in Wymark, spending time with his kids, grandkids and his dog, Rudy.
After Helen passed away Pete soon decided he wanted to move to the city so in 2018 he moved into the Heritage Towers in Swift Current. He enjoyed meeting and visiting his new neighbours stopping to chat to everyone but 3 mornings a week he could usually be found having coffee at the Wymark Rink.
Pete was predeceased by his wife, Helen; his parents, siblings, and mother and father-in-law, Tony and Grace Berger.
