An alleged gang member has been arrested and a loaded firearm was also seized following an ALERT investigation on the Sunchild First Nation.

ALERT Edmonton’s Integrated Gang Enforcement team made the arrest on February 8, 2024 after investigating a shooting that had taken place the previous evening. ALERT was working alongside Rocky Mountain House RCMP to help address gang-related issues on the Sunchild and O’Chiese First Nations.

Darwin Anderson was arrested and charged with six firearms-related offences. The 27-year-old was in possession of a loaded gun and numerous rounds of ammunition. Anderson is an alleged member of a street gang operating in the Sunchild First Nation.

“Gang activity impacts every community in the province and ALERT employs overt and covert enforcement strategies to disrupt their criminal activities,” said Insp. Angela Kemp, ALERT Edmonton.

At the time of Anderson’s arrest, he was wanted on eight criminal warrants for offences relating to firearms, robbery, assaults, and flight from police, which occurred in Rocky Mountain House area, Wetaskawin, and Tsuu T’ina Nation.

The firearm will undergo further ballistics testing to see if it can be linked to any shooting events. Firearms analysis will be completed by the Provincial Firearms Solutions Lab.

Anderson remains in custody.
