On February 17th, the Portage la Prairie RCMP received 36 calls for service. However, the one incident highlighted from that day in their weekly report, provided to PortageOnline, involved a speeder breaking imposed conditions.
Just after 2:00 p.m., a Portage RCMP officer observed a vehicle travelling 131 kph in a 100 kph zone on Highway #1 near Road 42 and conducted a traffic stop with this vehicle.
Upon further investigation, the police discovered that the driver was driving while suspended, and violating a legal condition of not being with the passenger. As a result, the driver was arrested and charged with two counts of Failing to Comply with an Undertaking.
He also received a traffic ticket for Speeding of $456.00, a traffic ticket for Driving While Suspended for $672.00 and the vehicle he was driving was impounded for a minimum of 30 days.
He was released to appear in court at a later date.
