The Red Deer Archives has launched a new exhibit, called Archival Gems, in celebration of its 60th anniversary.

The exhibit features favourite images selected by Archives staff and Mayor Ken Johnston, along with a brief explanation of why it was chosen.

“I am so pleased to help the Red Deer Archives mark their 60th anniversary,” Johnston said. “We are so fortunate to have this wonderful resource in our community, serving as the official repository for our community’s historical records. I’m only sorry our dear friend, the late Councillor Michael Dawe, isn’t here to celebrate this milestone with us.

The Archival Gems exhibit is on the second floor of City Hall.

Red Deerians are encouraged to visit the Archives Online to select and submit their favourite photo, which will be reviewed and shared in an online community gallery.

“While we spend all day looking at our records, we don’t always know what appeals to others and why. We’re very excited to include the community in this exhibit and our celebration,” Jillian Staniec, Archives Coordinator said.
