ANDERSON

With deep sadness, but grateful for all the time we had with her, the family of Loraine Anderson announces her passing on Friday, April 5th, 2024, in Moose Jaw, SK at the age of 97 years.

She was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Elmer; parents, Oscar and Ruby Haraldson; and brothers, Norman and Raymond.  Loraine is survived by her children: Barry (Sandra), Brent (Shelly), and Sharrie (Jerry); grandchildren, Lisa and Erin (JD); great-grandchildren: Makayla, Kallum, Alexis and Owen; several nieces and nephew; and her dear cat, Blacky.

Loraine was born May 21st, 1926, at Drake, SK.  As the family historian, mom’s incredible memory allowed us to experience and appreciate her life growing up on the farm at Expanse, SK, the struggles of the 1930’s, schooling and life in Expanse, our family lineage, and so much more.  Loraine met Elmer Anderson and the two were married June 14th, 1945, in Mossbank, SK.  Loraine moved to the Anderson family farm 7 miles away to start their family.  She taught us the value of hard work.  When something needed to be fixed or done, if need be she would figure out how to do it and get it done.  Even in the twilight of her life, she always felt she needed to help, no time to sit.  Loraine worked hard on the farm, making sure that everyone was taken care of, helping in the field when necessary, and being a wonderful neighbour, always having coffee on or pulling together a meal last minute.

Besides taking care of her family, Loraine took an active roll in various areas of her life.  She was secretary for the Aldenburg Rural Telephone Company, drove school bus, volunteered with the Cub Scouts, and in later years worked at Ruth’s Variety Shop in Moose Jaw.  She also participated in several community clubs through the years: Ardill Women’s Club, Mitchellton Square Dancing, Royal Purple, Optimists, and Good Sams Club.

When Loraine wasn’t busy with family, friends and working, she filled her life with her other passions.  Never one to leave a moment idol, she sewed, oil painted, modelled clay figurines, painted ceramics, and enjoyed the beauty of nature in all its splendour.  Her love of animals went well beyond the beloved family pets.  Cattle, deer, fox, and any other animals that wondered onto the farm were enjoyed and taken care of as needed.

Always up for an adventure, we as a family have many fond memories of mom’s time with us: camping, skating, playing ball, cross country skiing, and many other adventures.

Gone are the days we used to share

But in our hearts you’re always there

Never more than a thought away

Loved and remembered every day.

We will miss you always.

Loraine’s family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Pioneer Lodge in Moose Jaw for the care and compassion they provided during her 8 months stay.

A Celebration of Lorraine’s Life will be held on Thursday, July 25th, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Gospel Church in, Mossbank, SK.  As an expression of sympathy, donations in Loraine’s name may be made to The Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658 Station Main, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7.
