Youth interested in trying ringette are invited to the Come Try It Ringette event.
Experienced players and coaches from the Red Deer Ringette Association will be available to instruct interested youth and their families on and off the ice.
“Ringette is loved by many for its focus on players being included on a team as a primary measure of success,” the association's website said. “Technical skating and game play skills are developed gradually through fun practices, dedicated volunteer coaches, and adequate ice time.”
To try ringette, players require a helmet and skates. Red Deer ringette will provide sticks and rings.
The association’s Community Engagement Coordinator Chris Weiss explained that the event is a great opportunity for youth to try out the sport.
“We are excited to once again offer this free opportunity to children and youth in Central Alberta,” Weiss said. “Come Try It events allow kids to try the game without any commitment. Any skill level is welcome and if you are feeling nervous, we encourage you to bring a friend along.”
The event is set for April 28 at the Servus Arena. Children between four and 10 are scheduled for 3 p.m., and youth between 11 and 16 will hit the ice at 4:15 p.m.
Participants are asked to arrive at the arena 30 minutes early for an introduction and registration.
