The Central Plains RCMP has released the weekly report for the period between April 22 and April 28. The report covers Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth and the surrounding Rural Municipalities.
On April 23, around 10:30 p.m., Portage RCMP received a report of a suspicious person on Highway #1 and Road 19 West. The suspect was laying beside the highway.
Officers arrived and spoke to the 30-year-old man from Edmonton, Alberta. He was on court-ordered conditions and the officer found him violating three of those conditions.
He was placed under arrest and was charged with three counts of Failing to Comply with a Release Order and was held and appeared in court the following day.
On April 28, the RCMP were made known of a stolen 5’ x 12’ flat-deck utility trailer from an address on Wilkinson Crescent in Portage.
Sometime over the last couple of days, someone had made off with a grey and white Metrocab trailer, licence number 498GS. If any one has any information about this, they are asked to call the Portage RCMP, contact information is below.
Calls for police service totalled 255, which is an increase from the 231 calls the previous week.
Under Traffic Violations, there were 79 Highway Traffic Act reports, 3 Vehicle Collisions and 2 reports of Impaired Drivers.
Crimes Against Person reports included 9 Assaults, 3 Assaults with a Weapon, as well as 6 reports of Uttering Threats.
Crimes Against Property detailed 8 Thefts, 1 Theft of a Motor Vehicle, 2 reports of Breaking and Entering and 13 calls regarding Mischief.
Other statistics included 42 calls for Other Criminal Investigations and 63 for "Other Police Activity," meaning False Alarms, Suspicious People or Vehicles, and Assistance Given.
The days that saw the most action from the RCMP were Wednesday, April 24, and Friday, April 26, which both included 44 calls for service.
