May 3, 1952 – May 13, 2024

Beatrice Mae Long, much loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 13th, 2024 at the age of 72.

Born May 3, 1952 to Nick and Virginia Friesen in Swift Current Saskatchewan. Bea grew up on a farm near Waldeck alongside her older brother Wayne. She attended school in Waldeck and proudly completed her grade 12 year as part of the first graduating class from the Swift Current Comprehensive High School in June 1970, where she also completed a cosmetology program.

Beatrice met the love of her life, John Howard Long, when she was just 13 and he was 16. It was love at first sight for them, marking the beginning of their lifelong journey together. On August 8th, 1970, they married at the United Church in Swift Current, celebrating their union with a memorable honeymoon in Jasper and Banff. After their honeymoon they settled into Morse. Their marriage flourished over 53 wonderful years, filled with love, dedication and countless shared experiences.

Beatrice was blessed with two daughters, Sheri Nicole, who was born in 1974 and Patricia Danielle who followed in 1977. Her daughters brought her immense joy and fulfillment to her life, shaping many of her most cherished memories and motivating her enduring love and dedication as a mother. Bea’s life took a unique path as a mother due to Patti being born with spina bifida. Devoting herself wholeheartedly, Bea sought out the best care and treatment for Patti’s lifelong condition. Sadly, Patti passed away in 2012. While Bea’s heart was forever marked by this loss, there is solace in the thought that she is now reunited with her beloved daughter, finding peace together once again.

Beatrice’s hobbies included sewing, reading, golf, curling and gardening. She began a career at a hair salon and later managed the Morse Motel for a year. Beatrice and John lived and raised their family in Morse, where she was deeply involved in the community. She worked as a bookkeeper for Impala Esso gas station and garage, a noon hour supervisor at the school, the Family Store, the Morse Museum and held positions at the Credit Union in Morse, Sentiments and Office Outfitters in Swift Current.

Throughout her life, Beatrice was an active member of several groups and clubs. She served as a Brownie leader for the Girl Guides and was a member of the Lioness Club.

Beatrice is survived by her loving husband, John; her daughter Sheri (Tim); her brother Wayne Friesen (Marie); and her grandchildren, Hunter, Jaeda, Gage, Ashtyn and Nicholas; brother in laws; sister in laws; nieces; nephews; aunts; uncles, cousins and close friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Nick and Virginia Friesen and daughter Patti.

Beatrice ‘s warmth, generosity and unwavering spirit touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
