With another 1,168 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the past 24 hours, hospitalizations continue to rise as well.

The number of people in the hospital due to the virus rose by 28 cases for a total of 336.

ICU admissions also increased by ten for a total of 74.

Of the 336 in hospital, 262 are unvaccinated, 12 are partially vaccinated and 62 people are fully vaccinated.

For the second day in a row, another four deaths were reported for a total of 2,364.

AHS tweeted at 3:14 p.m., Friday, August 27, "With the rise in COVID-19 cases in the community and the increasing demand on hospital resources, AHS is taking steps to create additional acute and ICU capacity."

Some non-urgent surgeries and procedures are being postponed to ensure there are enough beds and staff to meet the rising COVID-19 cases. 

There are now 9,644 active cases of COVID-19 in the province. Cochrane is accounting for 43 of the total while Rocky View County accounts for 81 of provincial active cases.
