Large slash pile fire quickly contained by multiple fire crews
A small wildfire in a large slash pile in the Tsuu T'ina Nation just north of Bragg Creek and close to the Rocky View County boundary was quickly brought under control by multiple fire services, including Cochrane, late Feb. 21.
The combined efforts of the Redwood Meadows, Rocky View, Foothills, and Cochrane firefighters successfully limited its spread within two hours.
Shortly before midnight, Redwood Meadows Emergency Services reported the fire had been turned over to Tsuut'ina fire officials to monitor throughout the night.
GALLERY: Chaos determined to wrap up series tonight
A 5-0 win last night (Feb. 21) against the Lethbridge Eagles leaves the Cochrane Chaos one win away from wrapping up their AJFHL south division semifinal best-of-three series.
That win could come as early as tonight in Lethbridge. Should the Eagles put up a strong front, the series return to Cochrane on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. for the rubber game.
The Chaos dominated the play in the series opener, blasting 54 shots on Eagles goalie Carolyn Demchuk. It took 12 minutes for the Eagles to land their first of four shots in the opening stanza and had 29 on the night.
Fundraising heats up for the Coldest Night of the Year
Cochrane is gearing up for the Coldest Night of the Year, happening tomorrow at the SLS Centre. Organized by Helping Hands, this national event raises funds to support the hurt, hungry and homeless.
“We’re at 73 per cent of our goal, and these final 24 hours are where we see enormous jumps,” says Laura McDonald, executive director of Helping Hands. “Our goal this year is $75,000, and every contribution makes a difference.”

Assistant captain Ethan Matiece is eager for the long-awaited playoff matchup. "This rivalry goes back almost 40 years. I've been with the team for three years and haven’t had the chance to face them in the playoffs. We’ve been waiting a long time for this."
Chaos open playoffs tonight at home
The Cochrane Chaos may have been the top team in the AJFHL, but they can't take a win for granted in their south division best-of-three semifinal series against the Lethbridge Eagles that kicks off tonight in Cochrane.
The Eagles had a challenging season, finishing in the basement of the south with a mere four wins. They lost all six of their games against the Chaos.
Canada triumphs over US in intense 4 Nations Face-Off final with tensions high
Canada defeated its archrival the United States 3-2 in overtime in the 4 Nations Face-Off final on Thursday night in what was an emotionally-charged affair for players and fans alike.
The rematch between the two sides was intense, although it did not consist of three fights in the opening nine seconds, as the preliminary round game in Montreal did last Saturday, a 3-1 win for the Americans.
Connor McDavid scored the game winner, while Nathan MacKinnon and Sam Bennett scored in regulation for Canada. Brady Tkachuk and Jake Sanderson replied for the U.S.
70% of Canadians support retaliatory tariffs on United States: poll
Seventy per cent of Canadians are in favour of dollar-for-dollar retaliatory tariffs on the United States, a new poll suggests.
Nearly half of respondents to the Leger poll — 45 per cent — said they were strongly in favour of such tariffs, while 25 per cent said they were somewhat in favour.
U.S. President Donald Trump has pledged to impose steep tariffs on imports from Canada and other countries.

Flooding forces popular pathway to close in Cochrane
A portion of the pathway in Jim Uffelmann Park, south of the Jack Tennant Bridge, is currently closed because of flooding due to an ice jam.
The Town of Cochrane has placed barricades in the area to ensure citizens and pets stay safe.
The town is asking pathway users to find an alternate route.
Cochrane Wolves bring home two medals
Cochrane Wolves FC were a force to reckon with at the All-State Family Day Classic in Calgary.
The Cochrane Wolves U11 Tier 1 boys competed in the older U12 Tier 4 division. After going undefeated in the preliminary round, they claimed gold with a 5-0 win over the SSA Stetsons.
