The Sylvan Lake Community Food Bank has been serving Sylvan Lake and area residents for many years providing an emergency food service for those in need. Unfortunately, because this is a volunteer service they are not open every day.

For those in need, there is an alternative, The Little Free Pantry at the Sylvan Lake Municipal Library.

Corrie Brown from the Library talks about the service.

"The Little Free Pantry is a no questions asked resource that is available anytime during our open hours. People don't have to ask at the front desk if they can use it. It is something that they can just help themselves when they need it. It is completely community driven so it relies on donations in order to run. We will do fundraising and then we have local businesses, individuals, families and they will make donations"

Brown talked about what kinds of items are needed.

"We do have a fridge and a freezer, so we can accept fridge and freezer items and things like toiletries, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, toilet paper. We also have a lot of people that are in need of diapers and that kind of stuff."

Brown says that the Sylvan Lake community is amazing and whenever they put out a call for certain items people will come and fill the need.
