Rocky View Schools has sent a letter to parents and guardians that some schools will be setting up temporary immunization clinics to provide COVID-19 vaccination shots to students.

Immunizations will be provided to Grades 7 to 12, specifically students who are born in 2009 or earlier.

Vaccines will only be provided to students who return a completed consent form signed by a parent or guardian.

In the letter to parents Superintendent, Greg Luterbach says, "RVS supports this immunization program in our schools as another accessible means for eligible students and staff to receive the vaccine and another measure of protection within schools to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Those who choose to have their child or themselves vaccinated are encouraged to do so before the school clinic if they can. RVS respects and protects personal privacy and will not track an individual’s vaccination status. RVS will only share the returned consent forms with AHS so they can prepare for the clinic and ensure signed consent has been provided."

Details from Alberta Health Services (AHS) says a child with written consent will get a dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA COVID-19 vaccine in school if they:

• have never had a COVID-19 vaccine (this will be their first dose)

• had their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 3 weeks ago (this will be their second dose)

It was also noted that vaccination clinics may not proceed in all schools and is dependent upon the level of interest shown.
