Government officials provided a life COVID-19 update for Thursday, September 9.

There were 1,510 new cases reported in a 24-hour period.

There are 32 more people in the hospital bringing the total to 679.

There are seven more people in ICU departments bringing that total to 154.

Sadly, another nine deaths were reported bringing that total to 2,434.

There are now 15,977 active cases in the province with a positivity rate of 11 per cent.

Dr. Verna Yui, CEO of Alberta Health Services says “Our provincial health care system is experiencing significant capacity challenges. We continue to do all that we can to increase capacity particularly in ICUs where pressures on our staff, physicians, and resources are intense.”

Dr. Yui reported that ICU capacity is at 87 per cent and 70 per cent of the patients have COVID.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw spoke at length but one point was blunt, “Simply put, we need more Albertans to get immunized.”

Cochrane has 77 active cases and Rocky View County has 114 active COVID-19 cases.
