It was a long night for the Weyburn Beavers last night. The visiting Regina Red Sox would score nine runs in the first two innings and just continued to extend the lead, leaving Tom Laing Park with a 21-4 victory. The game was called with two outs in the top of the 9th inning, as rain returned to Weyburn.

The Red Sox chased starting pitcher Jordan Bauer after just two innings, as he gave up nine earned runs on 11 hits. Logan Wortman pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief, allowing seven runs. Then Mathieu Rocheleau took over, going 1 1/3 innings, striking out one and allowing two runs before position players came out to pitch the rest of the game.

Easton Mould would pitch for two innings, striking out three and allowing two runs. Then, Quentin Smith pitched the eighth inning, striking out two and not allowing any runs. Halen Otte started the ninth inning, and while he didn’t give up any runs, or strike out any batter, he wasn’t able to finish the outing before the rain prompted home plate umpire Elemer Jerkovits to clear the field.

While the Beavers gave up a lot of runs, when they were at the plate there were some solid performances. Nike Kekatos extended his hitting streak to nine games as he picked up a hit. Ryan Muizelaar, held hitless on Tuesday against Medicine Hat, got back into the swing of things with a pair of hits, including a double. Halen Otte also continued his hot hitting as of late with a pair of hits and an RBI.

Carter Schellsmidt finished the game with three RBI, driving in two runs with a single in the bottom of the second, and then hitting his first home run of the campaign in the eighth inning.

The Beavers will now head to Saskatoon for games tonight and tomorrow against the Berries. They return to Tom Laing Park for Saturday when the Brooks Bombers, the highest-scoring team in the league, come to town.
