While a parade of motorbikes, all rally ride bound, moved in an orderly fashion through the streets of St. Gregor, it was madly off in all directions for six teams participating in the first Shake, Rattle and Race.

It was all part of the fun at St. Gregor’s Shake Rattle and Roll on Saturday, June 22. The event was in aid of Parkinson’s Disease research with some of the proceeds going to the St. Gregor Community Hall.

The race pitted teams of four against each other, racing through the countryside toward a series of challenges. Some teams headed north toward Annaheim; others steered south toward LeRoy, with their drivers all (safely and sagely) jockeying to give their teams an edge.

We caught up with organizer Wanda Kiefer after the bikes rolled out and just before the racers took to the roads.

“It’s been a great morning. We’ve had lots here for breakfast. Six different teams of four are going to six different locations. They have clues to figure out where they are going, and they have different challenges at every stop that they have to complete.”

The organizers also had huge support from regional businesses when it came to donations for the silent auction. A live auction slated for later in the day boasted some larger items to entice a variety of buyers.

In the end, the top prize in the race went to Team Red, including Colby Frerichs and Jessica, Trevor and Janessa Britz who took home a cash prize of $1200. Second place went to the squad of Dylan Bornhorst, Dana Engele, and Jonah and Sara McGrath. Third prize winners were Brad Michel, Jayme Berting, Tyler Hogemann and Matt Kappelar.

Hats off to all the riders, racers, wranglers, and everyone involved in another great Shake Rattle and Roll.
