Organizers of one of Cochrane's most beloved events have made the difficult decision to host a virtual event, once again.

Cochrane Light Up was virtual last year and it will be again this year.

Cochrane Light Up Organizer, Stephenie Shelstad says the decision to go virtual was not an easy one. "It was extremely tough, I am a frontline worker and working in the throes of COVID right now and just with the age group that is unvaccinated. I know it's an outdoor event, but it's a huge event and everybody is still very close."

In a post to their Facebook page, organizers stated "With numbers rising the committee felt that it’s not the right time for a large scale event. Please stay tuned for further details. Get your community’s talking….. Let's see who will Light Up the brightest!!!!"

Typically Light Up sees thousands of people come to downtown Cochrane to enjoy music, entertainment, hot chocolate and it kicks off the Christmas season in our community.

Shelstad says that Cochranites can expect an event that is very similar to last year. "We're going to try and expand our light show a little bit more and let the community just keep it in their community. Again, we got a lot of positive feedback about people getting out and getting to know their neighbours better and just having that better community feel in their own little communities."

Cochranites will be able to enjoy a light show for several weeks in historic downtown that they can go to at their own convenience.
