Members of the garden club were joined by Lacombe City Councillor Reuben Konnik, and Reeve Barb Shepherd to celebrate the planting of the tree at the Lacombe Memorial Centre garden.

A Toba Hawthorn tree was chosen to be planted in consultation with the City of Lacombe Parks Department, because it has four-season interest, and grows in a unique way.

Karen Holmes, Chairperson of the Lacombe and District Garden Club explained that the trunk of Toba Hawthorn’s twists as it grows, and in the spring, it will produce flowers, and be seen as a feature tree in the garden.

The tree was planted in May to ensure it could be established over the summer to survive the winter.
