Central Albertans are reminded to be vigilant when having campfires or any other type of controlled burns over the long weekend.
Here are the fire advisories for Central Alberta:
Lacombe County
The fire risk in Lacombe County is currently low. There are no fire advisories in place.
Red Deer County
There are currently no fire advisories for Red Deer County.
Ponoka-Ponoka County-Summer Village of Parkland Beach-Rimbey
A fire advisory is in place.
Under the current fire advisory, firework permits, and open burn permits (for large industrial users only) will be approved on a case-by-case basis in the Town of Ponoka.
What is allowed:
• Bylaw-compliant backyard fire pits with a mesh screen and attended at all times
• Barbeques (propane/charcoal briquette) and smokers
• Gas and liquid-powered appliances (stoves, lanterns, and propane fire rings)
When using fire pits, citizens are urged to never leave a fire pit unattended. An ‘under control’ fire can change in a matter of seconds or minutes. Be aware of the weather conditions at all times and be sure to completely extinguish the flames and hot embers after you are done using your fire pit.
County of Wetaskiwin
The County of Wetaskiwin is under a fire advisory.
Off-highway vehicles can start wildfires. Check frequently to ensure hotspots are free of debris, and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.
When operating equipment, clear debris from moving parts, check your muffler, and keep equipment in good repair. Do not operate equipment in tall grass.
Keep watch of your surroundings and ensure you have sufficient firefighting equipment and water available.
Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it, and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished.
County of Stettler
A fire advisory is in effect.
The county advises the public to use extreme caution and that only necessary burning occurs. Be aware of the weather conditions at all times while burning. Extinguish your fire if the change in weather increases the hazard of an open fire. Never leave a fire unattended. Make sure you have the appropriate water and equipment to properly extinguish your fire.
What is allowed:

Essential burning in burning barrels that are constructed of non-combustible material that have a tight-fitting metal mesh screen with openings

Backyard fire pits, and safe wood campfires contained by non-combustible material with a metal mesh screen with openings

Portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves, and barbecues
Mountain View County
There are no fire advisories in place for Mountain View County.
Clearwater County
A fire advisory is in effect for Clearwater County.
Under the advisory, extension requests for fire permits may not be granted. New fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis for essential burning only.
