Red Deer Emergency Services is reminding residents of the city’s Fireworks Bylaw, which regulates the sale, possession, and use of fireworks within city limits.

The bylaw aims to ensure fireworks are used safely and responsibly by individuals with the proper training and qualifications.

Under the bylaw, a permit is required to discharge any type of fireworks, including consumer, display, and pyrotechnic fireworks. To obtain a permit, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • The permit holder must be a certified Fireworks Supervisor or Pyrotechnician as recognized by Natural Resources Canada

  • Obtain written consent from the landowner where the fireworks will be discharged

  • Provide a detailed description of the fireworks event and a site plan

  • Pay the necessary permit and inspection fees

“We want everyone to enjoy their celebrations safely,” said Fire Marshal Tim Kivell, Red Deer Emergency Services. “Fireworks can be dangerous and may have serious environmental repercussions if proper planning and precautions are not in place. To protect our community, we require licensed professionals to be involved in the handling and discharging of fireworks.”
