Red Deer County has issued a fire restriction today (July 11), for all of the county, due to dry conditions caused by the recent extreme heat.

Current permits will be allowed to expire, and no new fire permits will be issued.

During the fire restriction, all outdoor fires within Red Deer County are prohibited.

What’s permitted during a fire restriction:

  • Fires, which are contained within cooking and heating appliances, and which are fueled by fluids, gases, or wood pellets

  • Fires contained within industrial facilities for operational purposes

  • Safe acceptable residential fire pits, and enclosed incinerators

  • Approved gas or propane fueled fire pits, stoves, and barbecues

  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters

The county reminds residents and visitors that off-highway vehicles can start wildfires. Check frequently to ensure hotspots are free of debris and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.
