Watch for severe weather in the Rocky Mountain House area tonight

At 8:54 PM MDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

This severe thunderstorm is located 40 km northwest of Rocky Mountain House and is moving to the southeast at 30 km/h.

At 5:54, Thursday, July 11th, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Rocky Mountain House, Crimson Lake, James River and Caroline.

Thunderstorms will continue to develop along the foothills and move to the east this evening.

These thunderstorms will be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
