As a result of continued extreme dry weather, high temperatures, and wind conditions, a fire restriction is in effect for the County of Stettler.

Residents and visitors are reminded to use extreme caution, that only necessary burning occurs, and to be aware of weather conditions while burning.

Extinguish your fire if the change in weather increases the hazard of an open fire, never leave a fire unattended, and ensure you have the appropriate water and equipment to properly extinguish the fire.

During the fire restriction, no new permits will be issued, existing permit holders will be allowed to complete burning within the permitted time with extreme caution.

What’s allowed during a fire restriction:

  • Backyard fire pits

  • Safe wood campfires contained by non-combustible material with a metal mesh screen with openings

  • Portable propane fire pits

  • Gas or propane stoves and barbecues

  • Essential burning in incinerators made of non-combustible material with a metal mesh screen

Off-highway vehicles can start wildfires. Residents and visitors are reminded to inspect their ATVs frequently to ensure hot spots are free of debris and that mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.
