Elizabeth Ann Barrault

After a lengthy illness with cancer, Elizabeth Ann Barrault passed away with family by her side on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 78 years.

She will be forever and lovingly remembered by partner Robert “Bob” Burke; her son Gary “Sam” (Teresa) Barrault, granddaughter Jade (Eric) Wallace with great granddaughter Eberley and grandson Jaggar Barrault; son Joey (Sylence) Barrault, granddaughter Alexis (Mike) Clare with great grandson Carter, grandson Kohl Barrault, grandson Tyler (Courtney) Foster and Bailey (Kayla) Bernard; her extended family Kim (Don) Chipman with Angie (Scott) Tichbourne and her boys Ayden and Oscar, Kaliegh (Paul) Tower with Max, Susanne (David) Moran and Bonny Herrebout, along with many more nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Elizabeth grew up in Portage la Prairie, MB, where she went to school and received her education. She started working at the Portage Sewing Factory, then worked at the Portage General Hospital until her retirement. After retirement, she worked part-time at Portage Service for Seniors. Elizabeth loved to travel, forever remembering her many adventures and never forgetting the experience of going to Scotland twice and touring with the Shriners. She also visited Mexico and Chilliwack to spend time with her sister. She always loved spending time at the lake with Bob enjoying the lake life with a little wine and watching the sunsets.

Elizabeth enjoyed dancing, puzzles, and spending quality time with family, especially while watching and cheering them on at their sporting events. She always cherished her coffee and lunch dates, and the trips to her friend’s cabin and Carberry Sand Hills Casino. She loved spending time with her special longtime friends Bonnie, Annie, Penny and Gladys. Elizabeth was a member of the local Legion and a proud citizen of the Manitoba Métis Federation, attending many conferences. She also loved to watch the Métis steppers and enjoyed her favorite performer, Johnny Reid. She loved her routines, she was an honest (sometimes too honest) and loving person, she will be missed by many.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and doctors that took care of mom in palliative care. Also, we would like to thank Melanie Lavallee for the extra care that she provided not only to mom but to us.

Viewing and Visitation will take place at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A family graveside service will be held at a later date at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
