A man from Yellow Quill First Nation faces a charge of second-degree murder in a woman's death over the weekend. 

At approximately 5 pm on Sunday, August 18, RCMP responded to a call reporting an injured person on Yellow Quill First Nation. A 24-year-old woman, identified as Terrance Tony-Kishayinew from Yellow Quill First Nation was declared deceased at the scene. 

An RCMP release states that an adult male was arrested at the scene in relation to her death. Investigation determined he’d assaulted a second adult individual, who did not report injuries to police. 

As a result of continued investigation by Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes, 26-year-old Cole Smokeyday from Yellow Quill First Nation is charged with: 

  • one count, second degree murder,  

  • one count, assault, and 

  • one count, uttering threats. 

He is scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on August 20.
