The Town of Watrous, Manitou Golf Course and Watrous Winterhawks hockey team are coming together for a great cause.
Since Winston High School did not receive their grant for their breakfast program, the three organizations have partnered up together to create a raffle with the proceeds going to the breakfast program.
Recreation Director Chelsea Murfitt says the breakfast program provides an important service.
“A lot of times there’s people who wouldn’t get the breakfast regularly and it’s open to everyone, so everyone gets it, and everyone gets what they need, and you definitely see the benefits from it, you can tell when kids are hungry.”
She added, “you definitely take care of one little problem throughout the day and it’s nice to see that everyone gets the opportunity to get some food in the morning before whether they need it or feeling hungry in the morning.”
Prizes included in the raffle are a one-year gym membership, ten 9-hole green fees with five power cart passes, family swim pass for the 2025 Pool season, and season tickets for the Winterhawks in 2024-25.
The three organizations working alongside each other is another piece of evidence of the strong community sense felt in Watrous according to Murfitt.
“Watrous can come together very quickly to make things happen, if need be, especially putting something forward for something important.”
Murfitt also pointed out the efforts of Tina Edwards, a teacher at Winston High, who played a large in getting the breakfast program up and running and has put in a lot of effort to make sure the program is able to provide the students a healthy start to their day.
To purchase tickets for the raffle, you can contact Murfitt at the town office in Watrous.
Tickets are available until Wednesday, September 4.
