If you were waiting to grab a ticket for the 59th annual Labour Day Classic on Sunday in Regina, it's now too late. The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today that Sunday's matchup with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers is sold out.

It will be a first-place battle between the two clubs with the Roughriders (5-5-1) leading the Blue Bombers (5-6) and BC Lions (5-6). A win by the Roughriders would clinch the season series against Winnipeg and give the green and white the important tiebreaker.

The Roughriders defeated the Blue Bombers 19-9 on July 19 in their first encounter this year.

On Saturday, September 7, the two teams will meet in their final matchup of the 2024 regular season.

Other Roughriders news on Tuesday.

With the National Football League (NFL) cutting down their rosters to 53 players this afternoon, the implications are being felt north of the border.

The New Orleans Saints have released offensive lineman Kyle Hergel, who was the Saskatchewan Roughriders first round selection (3rd Overall) in this year’s CFL Draft. Hergel could still sign with another NFL club or join a team’s practice squad as the Roughriders hold Hergel's CFL rights.

Neville Gallimore, a 2020 7th round selection (71st overall) of the Roughriders was released by the Miami Dolphins. Gallimore signed with the Dolphins this past March after spending the last four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. The 27-year-old will likely stick in the NFL either signing with another team or joining a team’s practice squad.

The Roughriders have also signed running back SaRodorick Thompson Jr.

Last year, Thompson Jr joined the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent and played in one game. He also spent time on the Dallas Cowboys practice roster. This past summer, the running back attended the Los Angeles Rams training camp.

At Texas Tech (2018-22), the former Red Raider was named to the All-Big 12 team three times.
