A shocking turn in the conclusion of the Macklin bale arsonist.
RCMP announced Wednesday morning that Logan Sieben of Macklin was being charged in relation to the string of arson fires taking place around the region.
Shortly after the RCMP's 10:42 release, the Macklin Fire Department confirmed on social media that Sieben was in fact a firefighter.
"...After weeks of working hand in hand with the RCMP, our worst suspicions were confirmed, and a person of interest was taken into custody." stated chief of the Macklin Fire Department Justin Bast on social media. "It is with profound sadness that we report this individual was a member of the fire department."
Taking in the hard news, Chief Bast delivered his gratitude for everyone that assisted with the investigation.
"Macklin Fire Department is beyond grateful to the Unity detachment for their assistance in this matter. We deeply apologize to the public and hope that you understand that this rash of incidents, due to one individual’s actions, in no way represents the Macklin Fire department, its members or what we stand for. We want to thank everyone for their support, assistance and understanding."
The several bale/grass fires took place in the Unity/Macklin RCMP jurisdiction between July 28 and August 25, 2024.
