Wilfred Harley Pilkington

It is with great sadness that the Pilkington family announces the passing of Wilfred Harley Pilkington, 68, of Portage la Prairie. Wilf passed away on August 27, 2024, at Portage General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Wilf was a beloved husband to Carol for nearly 50 years. Together, they built a life full of love and laughter. He was the proud father of Jason (Angela) Pilkington and Ryan (Candace) Pilkington and a cherished grandfather to Rory and Cohen.

Wilf was born on November 14, 1955, in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, to Bill and Clarice Pilkington. He grew up in Rossendale, went to high school in MacGregor and spent his life dedicated to his family and friends. He is survived by his siblings Gordie (Pat) Pilkington, Lynn (Willie) Ross, and Connie (Paul) Brown. Wilf also leaves behind Paul Martens, a special brother-in-law, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and in-laws. All of them will remember him fondly.

Wilf held various jobs throughout his life, from slinging beers at the Viking Room and working in the Manitoba Hydro Mail Room to spending 13 years as a carpenter. He found his true calling at Canada Post, where he worked for 28 years.

In his younger years, Wilf spent endless hours playing baseball. His love for sports continued as he coached and cheered on his sons and later traveled all over Manitoba to support his grandchildren on the ice and field. Wilf had a deep love for the outdoors, spending countless weekends camping with his family and hauling his camper to explore sites around Manitoba.

Known for his great sense of humor and a lovable, though occasionally grouchy, demeanor, Wilf was always ready to lend a hand as the neighborhood handyman, a skill he passed down to his sons.

A private family interment is planned followed by a public celebration of life on Tuesday September 3rd, 2024 at 1pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to P.A.W.S (Portage Animal Welfare Society), 121 12th St NE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 4A2, in Wilf's honour.

Wilf will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. http://www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
