For the first time in the 2024-25 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season, the Humboldt Broncos will meet an opposing team, as they kick off the preseason tonight in Kindersley against the Klippers tonight.
Last weekend, the Broncos held their training camp at the Elgar Petersen Arena, giving Head Coach Brayden Klimosko a chance to view his new team on the ice. His first impression of the squad was a positive one.
“We had a great intense level at camp,” said the Broncos Head Coach and General Manager.
“Working with these guys have been great, it’s been a good transition and looking forward to keep building this weekend in exhibition season.”
Humboldt will meet Kindersley in a home and home set over the weekend, Klimosko says over the next two games, the entire roster will step on to the ice at some point.
“Everyone is going to play once,” he said noting the team’s plans will be fluid following the weekend.
“You might narrow it down, you might not.”
Following the two tilts against the Klippers, the Broncos finish off the preseason off with another weekend home and home series against the Melfort Mustangs, beginning next Friday (Sept.13) in Humboldt. Klimosko feels their counterparts during the exhibition season will provide the proper test for the green and gold to see where they measure up before the season.
“Both teams should be really good, really strong, and some good competition, looking forward to playing both of them and seeing where we stack up.”
Tonight’s preseason game in Kindersley will be on the air on 107.5 Bolt FM, with Rory McGouran beginning at 7:15.
The Broncos regular season begins on Saturday, September 21 against the Norte Dame Hounds at the EPA.
