Red Deer County is contributing to the province's food processing sector, after officially breaking ground for a $241 million flour milling facility in Springbrook on Friday (Sept. 6).

The facility will mill about 750 metric tonnes of wheat from western Canadian farmers into flour daily and have the capacity to add two more flour mills as demand increases.

Jim Wood, Red Deer County Mayor said he has immense gratitude and pride to celebrate the landmark decision.

“A facility like this benefits all our farmers in this region,” Wood said. “There’s a huge, huge market for the best products that are growing anywhere in the world and locally. To be able to see this being built here. the spin-offs that will come from this potentially are huge.”

P&H Milling Group is constructing the facility, which is expected to create 27 permanent and about 200 temporary employment opportunities.

The facility is over three years in the making and is expected to manufacture flour by the fall of 2026.
