Lacombe and area residents had a chance to sample all of the great organizations and events that are taking place in the community Wednesday night at the 44th annual Fall Active Living Fair.

The event attracted over 400 people to the Lacombe Memorial Centre. The fair, organized by the County of Lacombe Lifelong Learning Association (CLLLA), was a chance for residents to find out what’s happening in the community through the fall, connect with local groups and organizations, and register for programming.

Executive Director Dani Ducross said hosting the Fall Active Living Fair is critical for the community.

"What it does, it reminds everybody that there are so many opportunities to get out and get involved in Lacombe and you sometimes forget that especially as you wind down and you get tired. School gets going, I think families and parents really focus on their kids, so they tend to forget about things that feed them as well in terms of that energizing part of their day-to-day. It's important. Lots of chances to volunteer."

Some of the 47 booths on display included the Royal Canadian Legion, the Lacombe Athletic Park Association, the Rotary Club of Lacombe, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lacombe & District, Family and Community Support Services, the Lacombe Performing Arts Centre, the Lacombe Skating Club, the Red Deer Fencing Club, Lacombe & District Volunteer Link and many more. The City of Lacombe also hosted it's Coffee with Council allowing residents an opportunity to share their concerns and ideas with council. The Pan Continental Curling Championships was also in attendance signing up volunteers for next month's event.

The Fall Active Living Fair was also a great way for someone new to the community to familiarize themselves with all that Lacombe and area has to offer.

"We tend to get a lot of new people into our program from other countries," explained Ducross. "Being able to guide them to an event like this one, it's beautiful to watch them all of a sudden go shopping for things that will make them feel more at home quicker. It's a great resource that we have for the community. I'm very proud of putting it on and I'm so grateful for everybody that comes out and attends this event."
