The Swift Current Broncos will have a home-and-home set with the Moose Jaw Warriors to wrap up the WHL pre-season this weekend.

The Broncos are 2-1 in their exhibition games with a win over the Regina Pats and a split of two games against the Prince Albert Raiders last weekend.

Goaltender Matthew Kieper, who went 5-2-1-1 in nine games with the Broncos last season, is returning for his second year in Swift Current and says he and his teammates are looking to build off their success in 2023-24.

“From our team standpoint, it's just really growing after last year,” he said. “It was a lot of our guys’ first playoff appearances, so now that we got that experience, I really think we can build and have another good year this year.”

The Warriors eliminated the Broncos in the second round of the playoffs en route to winning their first WHL Championship. Kieper says although it is the pre-season, the team wants to get a win over their Highway 1 rivals.

“We take a lot of pride in these pre-season games”, he added. “We prepare like it’s any other game and I know we’re going to give it our best effort and we’re going to try our best to win these two games this weekend.

Tonight’s game starts at 7:00 p.m. from Innovationplex with the two teams playing again at the Moose Jaw Events Centre on Saturday in their pre-season finale.

The Broncos open the regular season at home against the Saskatoon Blades on September 20.
