The City of Swift Current's Memorial Bench Program has been honouring the lives of community members for nearly a decade and recently installed a duo of new additions.

One of the new memorial benches that was put in just this year is located near Buffalo Park while the other can be found just north of the Kiwanis Bike Safety Park off the Chinook Pathway.

Michael Newell, parks manager for the City of Swift Current, noted that after concerns about the wooden memorial benches, the City made the shift to sturdier, vinyl benches.

"We just recently went through the program and updated it this year, in terms of the types and styles of benches we're going to be offering," shared Newell.

The benches; in memory of Rose and Bernie Baker and the bench in recognition of the volunteers who contributed to the Rogers Hometown Hockey, are fashioned from the updated vinyl with engraved plaques designed to withstand the weather.
