The southwest non-profit responsible for maintaining the Eastend Rodeo Grounds was recently awarded a $5,000 grant to support their purchase of a much-needed tractor to upkeep the arena.

The Eastend Light Horse Improvement Society received the funding as a part of the Innovation Federal Credit Union's Legacy Community Development Grant Fund which has invested over $340, 000 into 28 Saskatchewan organizations this year.

Heidi Topham, secretary and treasurer of the Eastend Light Horse Improvement Society, noted that the organization greatly appreciated the grant and the impacts of it will be seen for years to come.

"It's great because now we have our own tractor that just stays out at the rodeo arena," said Topham. "We try to have someone work it once every couple of weeks but if someone wants to go out there and ride and it needs work, now we can easily get that done for them.

"It's a lot easier than having to pay or find a farmer to bring his machinery to town to do it for us."

She shared that the tractor cost around $16,000, so the grant helped to pay for a large portion of the cost once they received it in the spring of this year.

"The Eastend Light Horse Improvement Society is all volunteer run, we only have five volunteers that upkeep and maintain the rodeo grounds," Topham added.
The non-profit has previously received smaller amounts of funding but never such a significant amount and is looking forward to continuing to put the tractor to use.
