The Swift Current Museum held its first Lunch & Learn of the season yesterday afternoon, highlighting empowerment through education and the journey to find it.

More than a dozen community members attended the informational event which took place over the noon hour with lunch and an opportunity for discussion.

Icasiana De Gala, advocate for empowerment through education and former executive director of the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre, noted that she was invited to the museum's first Lunch & Learn of the season to speak about her accreditation process, experience, and the importance of education.

"Always believe in yourself, if you need to jump, jump," said De Gala. "It's the fear of the unknown that's really difficult."

Pre-registration was required to receive the lunch, which was provided by Spoon and Bowl for $12 per person, but the presentation was free to attend.

"There will be moments when you will doubt yourself, but you just have to rise up again," she shared. "Nothing is instant, it takes hard work,

"Do the work you need to do and enjoy the success if and when you reach that point."

The next Lunch & Learn is set for Wednesday, October 16 with Mary Thomson. Anyone interested in pre-registering can visit the Swift Current Museum's website.
