The City of Estevan is laying out its latest update with some new changes on the way for sidewalks on one block of the city.

In their update, dated September 11, the city gave out the following updates:

Access and Traffic Accommodation:

Sidewalks remain open with the exception of areas where excavations for service connections are necessary. In the next two weeks, limited sidewalk access will be in effect for the north side of the 1100 block. Fencing has been installed and signs are in place for both pedestrians and vehicles to take detours.

Currently back alleys are operating as two-way streets but may be shifted to one-way should the need arise through construction. The intersections of 12th Avenue and 4th Street and 13th Avenue and 4th Street remain closed.

Local businesses are still running in the area, with stores having rear or alternative access points established.

Project Status:

• Surfacing: Crews have removed 98 per cent of roadway asphalt within the project limits, with aggregate salvaged where possible.

• Sanitary Sewer: The city has completed the replacement of mains and services between the intersection of 11th Avenue and 4th Street all the way out to the 13th Avenue and 4th Street intersection.

• Storm Sewers: Storm sewer main replacement is progressing as planned, as installations are now completed past the 12th Avenue and 4th Street intersection. Installations have also advanced to a gas line on the 13th Avenue intersection as of September 10th. The city has received permission from SaskEnergy for sanitary and water mains, while their approval for storm sewers is pending.

• Water Services: buildings have had temporary water services installed, chlorinated, tested, and confirmed operational through the 1100 and 1200 blocks. Recently installed isolation valves are functioning properly.

• Electrical: The city has successfully removed all light poles on the 1100 and 1200 block with trenching through intersections being completed with subgrade installed.

• Curbing and Sidewalks: Curb work has begun with crews starting on the intersection of 11th Avenue and 4th Street, proceeding westward.

• Landscaping and Furnishings:  The installation of paving stones and StrataCell has begun along the 1100 block,
