The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings will open up their season tonight in Yorkton, taking on the Terriers in a Viterra Division matchup. Once again, you will be able to listen to all of the Red Wings games on Red Wing Radio, Country 106.7.

However, this year, there will be a new voice calling the games, as Dylan Fiessel makes his debut in the booth.

“This is something I’ve dreamed about since I was a little kid watching Bob Cole and Jim Hughson on Hockey Night in Canada, and I remember listening to hockey games on the radio as a kid with my grandpa and thinking one day doing something like that would be one of the coolest jobs on planet Earth. Now, for the chance for me to get into that booth and do it by myself is a pretty big deal for me.”

For Fiessel, he is expecting the Red Wings to come out of the gate hot, based on how the preseason went.

“I think there’ll be a lot of nervous energy into the first game,” Fiessel projected. “A lot of veteran presence should help keep that down on the ice, but... a lot of rookies coming into this game, so should be a lot of energy, a lot of fun, and should be a great game overall.”

As for what he will be watching for specifically on the ice, Fiessel echoed a lot of the sentiment being heard around the league.

“First, we’ll start in the net,” Fiessel said. “Dazza Mitchell, he’s coming in now. Between him and Zol between the pipes, they’ve been outstanding throughout the preseason.”

Along the blue line, Fiessel is excited to see what Max Chakrabarti, Josh Karman, and Simon Martin can do as newcomers to the lineup. As well, a pair of fresh faces to the Weyburn up front are being anticipated by Fiessel to bring some excitement to the game – Jace McNichol and Keenan Ingram.

You can listen live to the game tonight on Great Plains Ford Red Wing Radio, Country 106.7, starting with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
