Estevan Fire Rescue (EFR) has had a busy couple of weeks, with plenty of dispatches going out for alarms in the area.
Fire Chief Rick Davies talks about the calls over the past couple of weeks.
Two weeks ago on September 16, EFR was dispatched to a residential alarm around 6:30 a.m. in the Northeast area of the city. Crews responded to investigate a possible carbon monoxide alarm. The crew found no cause for the possible smoke alarm and found no CO readings for a possible carbon monoxide alarm. The residence was then cleared with a possible alarm issue being blamed.
A few days later on September 20, just before 10 p.m., a crew headed out to a commercial fire alarm in the Northwest area of the city. Crews responded and found that the alarm was due to steam from a shower with no emergency occurring.
The next day on September 21, EFR was dispatched to a commercial fire alarm just before 11 p.m. with a burning odor in the South central area of the city. Crews responded and found that to be a cooking-related fire alarm. Crews assisted with the alarm on the scene.
Work picked up again on September 22 with a grass fire Southeast of the city around 12:30 p.m. Crews responded and extinguished the fire without any incident. The crew reported no serious damage or injuries, having worked on the scene for around three hours. EFR is investigating the cause of the fire.
Later that evening at 9:15 PM, a crew was dispatched to an odour investigation in the North central area of the city. Crews responded and investigated, finding nothing.
The next day on September 23, 2024, a crew was dispatched just before 4 a.m. to a commercial fire alarm south of the city. After responding and investigating the crew determined there was no emergency occurring, with a possible issue with the alarm system being blamed.
The latest call came on September 25 when a crew was dispatched to a commercial fire alarm in the Northwest area of the city at around 2:30 p.m. Once again following the crew's response and investigation, no emergency was found to be happening with another possible alarm issue being mentioned.
