Estevan was on the list of communities hit by a wind warning yesterday, with heavy gusts being reported across the prairies.
That whipped up wind drastically, with more southern areas such as Estevan the worst hit.
That came in thanks to a system which developed over the day, explains Environment Canada Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins.
"We had quite a potent low-pressure system track through southern Saskatchewan up into the northeast into Manitoba and it's currently over Hudson Bay. So that caused really strong winds over much of Southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba over the weekend."
The system didn't stop at just wind, as Desjardins says areas that got hit also saw a serious decrease in temperatures which is holding on to this day.
"Associated with that low-pressure system, there was a pretty strong cold front. So we saw quite a change from the highs in the mid to upper 20s. Now we're going to see more seasonable temperatures moving forward."
While Desjardins says they haven't gotten any damage reports for the area, she says she wouldn't be surprised as Estevan got some of the worst winds of the system.
"I do have some of the wind gusts handy here. For example in Estevan, peak wind gusts to 96 kilometres an hour, so that was definitely warning criteria for us. Second highest here with Shaunavon at 91 kilometres an hour. So I wouldn't be surprised if there was damage out there."
