As the Estevan Curling Club gears up for its 2023-2024 season, new installations and a packed schedule of events promise an exciting year ahead. Manager Pauline Zeil Grimsrud shared details about the ongoing preparations and some of the exciting changes curling enthusiasts can expect.

“We are busy getting ready for the upcoming season. Install is happening out on the ice surface,” said Ziel Grimsrud. “We’re excited to see the paint down, the houses in, and the lines going in.”

The much-anticipated season will officially kick off on October 28, welcoming both recreational and competitive curlers back to the rink. However, curlers will have the chance to get an early start, with open ice times and practice sessions available a week beforehand.

“The official day that leagues will start is the 28th of October,” Ziel Grimsrud explained. “We’re hoping to throw rocks the week before, with some open, free ice time and designated practice slots for competitive curlers.”

In addition to the regular season preparations, the club is introducing a new click flooring system on side sheets 1 and 6. This innovative upgrade aims to enhance the overall ice quality and make rink maintenance more efficient, benefiting both players and staff.

“We’ve purchased a click flooring system for the side sheets, which will not only help prevent deterioration of the ice but also improve cleanliness,” Ziel Grimsrud noted. “It’s something we saw at another club and thought it would work well for our needs.”

The improvements are designed to create a more comfortable and reliable environment for players, while also helping to maintain the club’s high standards for ice quality throughout the season.
