The Estevan Curling Club is set for a bustling season with a variety of upcoming events, school programs, and a much-anticipated bid to host the 2026 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Manager Pauline Zeil Grimsrud outlined what the season holds, noting excitement around both community and competitive curling.

This season will see a full calendar of events, including leagues, Christmas parties, a youth camp, and a focus on curling programs for local schools. The club is looking forward to hosting multiple youth-focused tournaments in the new year. “We’re going to have a lot of events going on this year,” said Ziel Grimsrud.

“We’ve been booking schools to bring students in for curling and we’ll also host various high school tournaments in February.”

One of the biggest potential events on the horizon for the club is the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Estevan has officially submitted its bid to host the prestigious tournament in 2026, with a decision expected in December or January.

“We have applied for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in 2026,” Ziel Grimsrud said. “Curling Canada will be visiting our community in October and we’ll know by December or early January whether our bid was successful.”

Youth curling continues to grow at the club, with several young curlers competing across the province. Additionally, the Estevan City Police’s Tuesday night youth program is back this season, bringing fun and competition to local curlers.

“We’ve got a great group of young curlers coming up this year,” Ziel Grimsrud said. “It’s exciting to see them compete at the provincial level.”

One of the other exciting youth programs is the Estevan City Police’s Tuesday night youth curling initiative, which will be back this season. This program not only promotes curling among youth but also fosters community relationships through friendly competition with local law enforcement.

“Our Tuesday program is sponsored by the Estevan Police Association,” explained Ziel Grimsrud. “Once a year, we have a kids versus police fun night, and there’s even a plaque where the winners get their names engraved.”

With an exciting lineup of events and a focus on youth engagement, the Estevan Curling Club is set to foster a vibrant community spirit and elevate curling in the region this season.
