Grade 9 and 10 football players had their chance to shine on Saturday at Glenn Hall Park during Humboldt's junior football jamboree.
Along with the HCI Mohawks, teams from Prince Albert, Melfort, Tisdale and Lumsden were in town for some gridiron action.
The teams faced competed in controlled scrimmages, with no special teams and the coaches and senior players were on the field with the players to provide immediate tutelage after each play.
Mohawks head coach Eric Anderson said along with the perfect weather, it was a successful day on Saturday.
“With our parent's support and our senior players that were able to come out and help, it’s always an enjoyable day and lots of good football for our Grade 9 and 10 guys.”
The purpose of the junior football jamborees is to allow the younger players to get some extra time on the field to develop their skills on the field with a game-like atmosphere against an opposing team.
Anderson explains the jamboree helps the football team both in the present and down the road.
“We always say, it’s the most fun thing to coach because you get to be out there on the field, you get to see every rep, you get to work with them and give them feedback after every rep, we see it pay significant dividends by the time our guys get to a level where they can play senior, especially those guys who are playing senior reps and our also get the jamboree reps, it really helps them develop a lot quicker.”
In September, the Mohawks took part in junior football jamborees in Melfort and Tisdale and this Saturday, they will be involved in their final one for the 2024 season in Lumsden
