The Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) Mohawks football team will have another chance to unseat the undefeated Delisle Rebels when the two teams meet in Delisle.
On September 20th, the two teams met in a highly entertaining back and forth game, with the Rebels securing the victory thanks to a pair of touchdowns in the final two minutes of the game.
Despite the loss, Mohawks Head Coach Eric Anderson felt there was plenty of evidence of good things his squad did in their first encounter with the Rebels.
“I found right after a loss that people tend to focus on the negatives as opposed to the positives and we were really trying to pull out the positives that occurred in that first game with Delisle, everything that went well and everything that we’ve improved on since then.”
Anderson added the film is very beneficial for the Mohawks coaching staff.
“We get to plan against schemes and set up some scout teams and gives our guys the best shot to see what they may see, with that said, their (Delisle) coaches will try to pull one over us too.”
Even though Delisle hasn’t lost in 2024 and holds an impressive point differential of +143 (219 PF-76 PA), Anderson said the Mohawks are confident heading into the rematch.
“Those tight contests are what prepare you for playoffs, that’s ultimately the goal for end of the league season here, we’re going to try a better game than we did the first time but looking back we had a lot of heart on the field at home, we’re hoping to bring the same thing to Delisle on Friday.”
With John Paul II (North Battleford) defeating Kindersley on Thursday, the Mohawks have moved a half a game back for second spot in the league standings.
The Mohawks finish the regular season on Friday, October 11 at Glenn Hall Park when they meet John Paul II.
