September is known as the month when temperatures start coming down, but sometimes the month continues to produce summer heat in the Estevan area.
Environment Canada's weather data shows that the region did see some summer-like conditions in what was nearly a record-breaking month in terms of heat.
Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins lays out the conditions which the area saw over that month.
"Overall temperature was quite warm, lots of regions in Saskatchewan hit their second and third warmest September ever, and a couple hit their 5th warmest. So for example, for Estevan, the mean monthly temperature was 16.7° in September, and the normal is 12.6. So that was actually the third warmest September overall, and that's 109 years of data."
The higher heat was joined by more rain in many areas, creating an almost tropical September for some areas.
Desjardins says that the Estevan area didn't share in much of that moisture.
"So it was a little bit varied over Saskatchewan over western sections. It was quite a bit more wet than normal, there was one specific thunderstorm complex I believe that went through September 17th and 18th that made those values kind of spike."
"However, in southeastern Saskatchewan, it was a little bit drier than normal. So for example for Estevan we had 28.1 millimetres of rain in September, normal is 36.1. So only 78% of the normal for September."
Desjardins says to expect the start of October to be hotter than for at least the first half.
