The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins fought hard over the weekend, coming out with points in two different games and their first win of the season.
Between an overtime loss to the Nipawin Hawks on Friday and a win against the Flin-Flon Bombers on Saturday, the team is looking to reverse the fortunes from its earlier losses.
Head Coach Jason Tatarnic says the games did start out a bit rough with their game against the Hawks.
"We created a lot of chances, we scored some goals, probably should have scored some more and we didn't. We made some mistakes and it cost us so we had to fight back from a four-one deficit in the 3rd and we did, give the guys credit for showing the character that way. We talked about it and we got to make good on our chances and we can't allow all those schools against."
The team didn't have much time to put their overtime skills to use as the game-winning goal came just over a minute in.
Tatarnic says the team was disappointed in their results, but they did see better work in their win against the Bombers.
"I thought we played very well in the first period and we could have probably made a three-nothing game. We just couldn't find the back of the net and to Flin-Flon's credit, they came out really hard in the second period for the 1st 10 minutes and kind of took it to us. But we're able to weather the storm and head into the second intermission with a one-goal lead still. Then we found a way to secure the win and an empty netter. Two points is always good, especially against Flin-Flon."
Tatarnic says the team was able to secure their first win by creating and capitalizing on chances in what he says is a sign of great work ethic.
The Bruins next play the Humboldt Broncos on Wednesday on the road, before facing off against the Kindersley Klippers on Friday and Saturday also at home.
