For the first time since 2021, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have reached the Canadian Football League (CFL) postseason.
On Saturday, the Roughriders punched their ticket to the playoffs with a 28-24 win over the Edmonton Elks.
Saskatchewan was in positioned for the clinching victory after the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Calgary Stampeders on Friday night.
Roughriders quarterback Trevor Harris was 22 for 28 with 358 passing yards with two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions.
Receiver Samuel Emilus had four receptions with 126 receiving yards and a touchdown. Receiver Keesean Johnson five catches for 103 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Kicker Brett Lauther was 2 for 2 on field goal attempts.
Rolan Milligan continued his strong 2024 campaign with his league-leading 8th interception of the season.
Linebacker Adam Auclair also had an interception.
After a one-game absence, linebacker CJ Reavis had nine tackles along with a forced fumble.
The victory for Saskatchewan moved them past the .500 mark (8-7-1) and eliminated the Elks and Stampeders from playoff contention. The last time both teams from Alberta missed the playoffs was 1947.
With a playoff spot secured, the Roughriders will look to host a playoff game. On Saturday, they will meet the BC Lions.
Saskatchewan leads BC by a point in the standings. In their first matchup, the Lions defeated the green and white 35-20 on July 13.
If the Roughriders beat the Lions, Saskatchewan will host a playoff game. If BC wins on Saturday, they will have a one-point edge with each team having one game left on their schedule.
