Estevan saw a lot of wind over the start of October, with warnings going out last week on two separate days.
That saw winds that whipped up the southeast to the point that many people reported damage to their property, mostly thanks to flying debris.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Christy Climenhagen talks about the system which brought so much wind to the southeast.
"So what we saw this weekend was what we call an Alberta Clipper system moving through the Prairies. So what that is is a low-pressure system that forms just in the Rocky Mountains around Alberta and then goes across the prairies towards the east pretty quickly. So what happened is it kind of formed through the weekend and was already gone by the time you reached late Sunday, but it did bring with it quite a punch in terms of winds."
"Estevan kind of seeing the brunt of it in terms of our reports, gusts to 107 kilometres per hour for Saturday, so very, very strong winds with the system, a number of other areas seeing gusts to 100 as well."
Alberta Clippers in most other cases tend to bring a good amount of moisture with them, but for the southeast, any moisture was too far to the north to show up here.
Climenhagen says they did receive a good few damage reports from residents thanks to the wind.
"There were quite a few reports of damages, mostly broken trees may be affecting power. You know, we did see some reports in Regina of on one of the ring roads, metal pole holding and overhead sign collapsed, you know, blocking traffic there for a little while. Some trouble with vehicles, overturned semis. So there was some damage for sure associated with these strong winds, but mostly kind of broken trees and that sort of thing."
SGI released some of the statistics for the southeast - in the Estevan and Weyburn area, 10 auto claims were made along with five property claims, for a total of 15 win-related damages since September 30.
That wind is looking to die down in what will be a relatively calm October week.
"Through southern Saskatchewan for the next couple of days, it's actually really warm, you know, looking at Estevan temperatures in the 20s, whereas you should be seeing daily highs at this point in October at about 14° and lows around the freezing mark, so we are going to be quite a bit above seasonal for the next couple of days."
"A little cooler as you get into your Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and by cooler we mean a little closer to seasonal, but it does look like it's going to be a quieter week for us in Southern Saskatchewan. So maybe some time to actually enjoy some late fall warm weather."
