The Swift Current Comp Colts play for a spot in their high school soccer league final later today against Moose Jaw Central.

They earned their way with an 11-1 win over Moose Jaw Boys on Saturday.

"It was a really good game," said Colts co-coach Chris Garner. "We enjoyed that the guys were playing to the plan. Controlled the game probably 95% of it was in our favor and we were able to capitalize on a lot of our offensive runs. And then we were able to shut them down defensively to prevent any major threat."

The match-up with Central is an opportunity to get some redemption for the Colts after a regular season loss.

"Our guys are really excited to get back and play them," Garner said. "First time we played them, we had three practices, and we had a lot of our young players playing. It was a very close game that first time. These guys are excited to get out there and show them what a month and a half of practice can do. And maybe get a little bit of revenge on them from earlier in the year."

Both clubs had 4-2 records in the regular season. Swift Current finished slightly ahead of Central because of a better goal differential. Offence has been a strength for the Colts who have scored 44 goals in 7 league games.

"We like to own the midfield," Garner said. "A big part of soccer, especially at a high school level, is if you can control the midfield, you can control the game. Once you control that midfield, you can cycle the ball to the outside. Then you can press into the corners. You can pull the opposition to that side of the field. You can switch it on them. It opens up a lot of the field that you can find empty space and capitalize on those plays."

Today's semifinal is set for 4pm in Moose Jaw.
