The Red Deer Rebels four-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday night at the Peavey Mart Centrium against the visiting Vancouver Giants.

The Giants league-leading power play struck three times in the first period paving the way for a 5-2 win.

Vancouver captain Mazden Leslie opened the scoring just over seven minutes into the game with a power play goal.

Ty Halaburda added a power play marker at 16:35 on a shot from the slot that beat Rebels netminder Chase Wutzke.

With seconds left in the first period, Cameron Schmidt scored the Giants' third power play goal giving them a 3-0 lead through twenty minutes.

Cohen Poulin got Red Deer on the board early in the second period.

However, Vancouver responded with two goals 1:55 apart from Aaron Obofaio and Jakob Oreskovic for a commanding 5-1 lead.

Hunter Mayo scored his second of the season for the Rebels late in the middle frame to make it a 5-2 game.

Red Deer outshot Vancouver 34-28 and was 0-for-4 on the power play.

Talon Brigley played his 200th career regular season game for the Rebels while forward Jaxon Fuder made his WHL debut after signing with the Rebels earlier this week.

The Rebels are right back in action Wednesday night when they visit the Medicine Hat Tigers at 7 p.m.
