Estevan Fire Rescue held its yearly open house last night, inviting the community to come down to their station and chat about the ways people can stay safe from fire.
With that lining up with Fire Prevention Week, they focused on issues like smoke alarms and what equipment firefighters bring to fight fires.
EFR Fire Chief Rick Davies talked about the open house and what it brought to residents.
"For Fire Prevention Week, we have the open house going on. We just felt it was a good idea to again invite the community into our house, see what we do, learn about Fire Prevention Week, which is to do with smoke alarms again this year."
As well EFR offered families visiting the open house hot dogs, supplied by the Southern Plains Co-op.
Davies says that during the open house, they field a wide variety of questions from residents.
"Nothing specific. We always have traditionally pushed the use of smoke alarms in houses, but here, you know, anyone's open to ask any kind of questions that they have that we can try to answer."
As a yearly tradition, Davies says he's excited to host it again and keep it going into the future.
"I think we'll keep this tradition going. It seems to work well for us and the community seems to engage us well with it. So yeah, I don't see a reason why we wouldn't do it."
